SWIMMING IS AWESOME

Swimming is always fun in the summer.  With a warm day in the Bay we decided it was a great day for a swim.  We are learning to enter the pool safely, walk across the pool and float.

CYCLING

Today we went cycling...... and what a great day to go cycling!  We missed the rain by an hour and ....... we had one of our Team move from 4 wheels to 2 wheels!  Well done Kalani and that smile on your face said it all.  Miss T held onto Kalani and secretly let him go.  Kalani did not know he was by himself until he stopped looked around and said "Hey - your way over there!  How did that happen?"  "You biked over there Kalani - all by yourself!"  Your smile Kalani spoke a million words - you were so very proud of yourself -
well done!
Another fantastic learning opportunity at Mahora School!

LEARNING AND AKO TIME

At Reading time we are allowed to write on Miss T's whiteboard table.  At first we were a little reluctant, because, after all, this is the teacher's table.  But Miss T said - go right ahead, write the words we are learning today...... so we did.  How cool is that?  We get to write on the teacher's table.  Awesome!  We wrote "I am".  We can remember to leave spaces and write "I" as a capital letter.  We are awesome learners!

AKO TIME
In the afternoon it was our very first Ako Time experience.  Ako Time is our version of Discovery Learning.  Miss T and Mrs McKinley took time to plan each station and we were allowed to visit any station we thought we might like.  We could use Duplo, go upstairs to our fruit shop, build with blocks outside (or sell these to Miss T and Mrs McKinley for exorbidant prices!).  We used the musical instruments to dance around the tree and sing songs.  We used the felts to decorate our boxes.  We used boxes as tunnels.

As 5 year olds we are so very creative and it was a blast to be able to display our creativity to Miss T and
Mrs McKinley.

WEEK 2 IN TEAM TAHI

Remz joined Team Tahi today with a great big smile and great attitude!  Welcome Remz
We worked together to make a number puzzle on the floor. We had to share the pieces and help each other.  Sometimes the pieces didn't fit so we had to turn them or try another piece.  We did it in the end and we were pretty pleased with ourselves!
We are learning about full stops and capital letters.  Did you know that full stops are in our reading, our writing and in our shared books!  Amazing!  They are everywhere.

Did you know capital letters start a sentence?  These are everywhere as well.  Amazing!

We are learning to identify these in our reading, writing and shared stories.  We are full stop and capital letter detectives!

Our very first story writing today.  We used spaces, capital letters and full stops.  We are awesome Mahora learners with the right attitude.

Tino pai rawa atu Team Tahi!

DAY 4 IN TEAM TAHI

Amelia came to join us in Team Tahi today because she is starting school very soon.  Amelia enjoyed our activities and had a fantastic smile to share with us.  Thanks for coming Amelia, and thanks for being fantastic role models Levi, Mikayla and Kalani.

FIRST DAY IN TEAM TAHI

Here we are - Team Tahi!  We are the start of great things.  We had a splendid day exploring our world at school.  We loved popping the poppers and cutting the ribbon on the balloons.  Kalani told us the balloons were going to outer space.

We had to look through 100 balls to find the letters to make our name.  Look how smart we are.  We found all the letters in our names.  What a cool way to start the day.

Happy New Year Room 1 Tamariki and Whanau

Happy 2015 Room 1.  I hope that you have had a magical Christmas and a great start to the new year.   Don't forget to keep up your learning over the holidays - some ideas could be...
  • continue to visit our Blog and use the links to learning sites down the side to help maintain your learning
  • visit the Hastings Library and find books that interest you - stories you can read by yourself and stories that can be read to you
  • keep a diary about your holidays
  • write an email to a friend or relative, or even a letter using the post!
  • revisit your Magic Tree Booklet - revise words you have already learnt to read or spell and aim for the next pages of new learning
Thank you again all tamariki and whanau for a wonderful year of learning in 2014!  I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!
