READING ACTION

We are using lots of brain power when Reading.  We look at beginning sounds,  blends, punctuation, word families and the Teddy Bear words we know.  When we have secured alphabet sounds, letter names and the Teddy Bear words - reading becomes so much easier.  We love exercising our brains.  Thanks to our whanau for reading at home with us and helping us to secure the love of reading.

Today for Reading we read "Huggles in School".  We then focused on the blend "fl".  Here are the beautiful collage flowers we made :-)

Fabulous Writing in Room 1

Last week we were reading a story about wacky hats.  One day for writing we created our own hats and then described them.  Check out our awesome stories!

What's up in Room 1?

We have had an amazing start to Term 2.  Our topic focus is Bees.  Today we drew what we thought a bee looked like and we also talked about what we already knew - we even have bees hanging from the middle of our classroom.... check them out :-)

At Maths time we are looking at seriation - ordering shapes from the smallest to the biggest.  We started this today and looked at the Gingerbread Man story.  

Our story this week is "Grumpy Elephant" and today we cut up a sentence, matching words underneath.  Here is Jamie-Lee's work.

The Old Oak Tree

Today we read a great story called "The Old Oak Tree" at Reading time.  It is the story of a boy who plays with three friends near an Old Oak Tree.  The friends are a Frossil, a Freeblie and a Frabbit.  We did a cut and paste activity about this today.  Here is Logan's work -
