THE ALPHABET SQUABBLE AND COOKIES FROM HARRY'S MUM!

We read the a book called "The Alphabet Squabble".  There were popular letters and unpopular letters - the "x", "y" and "z" were not very popular.   The popular letters were rich and the unpopular letters were poor.  We discussed what "rich" and "poor" would mean.  Kalani - thinking with his cup half full, or with a growth mindset attitude, said that poor meant "only a little bit rich".  What a great way to describe poor Kalani - we love your positive attitude in Team Tahi.

After we read the story we all made our own Alphabet.  Come and see it really high up on our wall.  We love our alphabet and we love the capital and lower case letters.  We like it because we made it and not a poster which Miss T bought or made from the internet.  We are just an amazing bunch of 5 year olds - just ask us!

After we had read story we were so very lucky to each get a yummy cookie from Jack's Aunty Leanne. We loved these cookies and it was a great to get one each because we were feeling a bit sad because we could not go on our adventure up Te Mata Peak because of the rain.  Thanks Aunty Leanne - you have just gained 13 more nephews and 4 more nieces.

PHONICS TIME

Phonics is learning the sound letters make.  Today we learnt the sound for the letter "c".  Once we had mastered the sound and how to form the letter we went back in our brains to remember how some other letters we had learnt recently and made 2 words.  Because...... did you know.... letters make words!  Aha!  They do!  Our brains know that too!  Check us out with "cat" and "sat" - ohhhhh, hey - that rhymes as well.  Super stuff!  Miss T had to try and get one good photo of us all ...............

PINK PARTY PIGS, P, P, P

When we learn phonics we sing a little ditty, follow some actions, and learn the sound a letter makes.  On Tuesday we were learning the letter sound "p".  We made some Pink Party Pigs using crayon and dye.  We did not know how to draw a pig so we relied on our shape knowledge and used ovals, circles, triangles, curly lines, and the letter "w" to make our pig.  Then we dyed our pigs.  We were really surprised when Miss T wrote our names in white crayon on the page because we could not see it.  But then magic happened, when we dyed our paper, our name appeared.  AMAZING stuff!
