Olden Day Bits and Pieces

Mrs Perry kindly lent us some olden day kitchen things... we had a look at them, played with them and tried to figure out what their jobs were.  How would you go?

Inquiry Focus

We have been looking at how things have changed over time.  Today we looked at how transport has changed, from horse and buggy to cars, and how planes, boats and trains have evolved.  Some of us have also been bringing along things from home.  
Here are two things that were shared with us.  We finally found out that the box was in fact an old cat cage and the scales were probably used for weighing money... very interesting stuff!

What foods should we eat a lot of?

Today we worked with Room 2 to find out which foods were foods we eat a lot of and which foods are treats.  We looked at lots of different types of foods and sorted them into two sets.  Then in groups of three we cut out pictures of foods that and sorted them.  Room 1 and 2 worked really well together - thank you to our big buddies Dylan and Brodie who helped us out too!

  

Buzzy Bees

We are becoming bee experts in Room 1... we can not wait for our trip to the Arataki Honey Farm in Week 7!!!
Today for art we decided to be like the children in the Magic School Bus story about bees... 

What's up in Room 1?

We have had an amazing start to Term 2.  Our topic focus is Bees.  Today we drew what we thought a bee looked like and we also talked about what we already knew - we even have bees hanging from the middle of our classroom.... check them out :-)

At Maths time we are looking at seriation - ordering shapes from the smallest to the biggest.  We started this today and looked at the Gingerbread Man story.  

Our story this week is "Grumpy Elephant" and today we cut up a sentence, matching words underneath.  Here is Jamie-Lee's work.

Our School Community

We have been learning about the people in our school and where they work during the day.  Today we visited Miss Kittow and Mrs McEntee in Room 3 and Room 4.  We went on a Teacher Hunt!
We also talked about the job Mrs Warren does in the school office and then we drew her using our pencils.  Our drawings are pretty cool!
