Team Tahi joins Team Rua, Toru and Wha in Ako Time each Tuesday after lunch.  Ako Time is where we develop key competencies through activity-based, child-directed learning.  We paint, write, create, listen, use fine motor skills and gross motor skills.  We use our cooperative skills, engage in language with others, and explore our emotional selves through purpose set-up activity stations.  We are exploring how we learn by ourselves or with others.  The carefully thought through planning encourages tamariki to complete tasks, persist at tasks, make choices, cooperate, join in activities with others, and explore new learning.

LEST WE FORGET

On Friday we made personalised thumb print poppies in recognition of ANZAC day.  This is our "field of remembrance".

BEWARE .................. THE DINOSAUR EGG!

What a start to the term!  We came into our class to see ....... footprints .......... were they chicken footprints??  dinosaur footprints??  who did they belong too?  

Then we saw a .................. wait, are those eggs??  is this a nest?

WOWZA!  They are eggs?  Who laid them?  

There are dinosaur pictures all around the room and dinosaur books.   Could these be dinosaur eggs? 

It is, it is, it's a Dinosaur nest!!!!!  

What sort of dinosaur might have laid these eggs?

SO MANY QUESTIONS? But no time for investigating at the moment - we had to get to Monday Meet up.  When we came back - oh, oh, tip toe guys, something has been in the class!! Be quiet, shhhhhhh, whisper, tip toe!  OH WOW LOOK!  In the nest!

Eggs galore!

 

WOW!  Frozen eggs!  With dinosaur's inside! A Mazing!

Ali thought the dinosaur may have been hiding in the library?  Look out Ali - it might be in the Dinosaur Hut!

Then Ali observed that his dinosaur was melted and his hoof was sticking out!  You have great eyes Ali.

Amelia observed that her egg was cracking and it was cold!  

 BRRRRR!  Jazmine and Stevie-Lee's eggs were fffffreezing!

Hemi and Miklaya thought their eggs were hatching and freezing!

  Jacks egg was cccccc cold!        

We used knives, spoons, warm water and salt on our eggs to see what would happen.  When we put the salt on our eggs they went sparkly and spotty!  When we put the water on, it made a hole.

Jaziah loved the freezing cold egg and chipping away at it with a knife.  It took lots of work to get the dinosaur out!

Cervante worked quietly and diligently to get his dinosaur out of the egg!  Well done Cervante - you are a hard worker!

Kalani's egg had a green colour.

Dylan said her egg was exploding - it certainly was when she threw it to the ground to see what would happen.   Scientists try all sorts of things when they are exploring new learning!  Everyone enjoyed throwing their eggs to the ground and picking up the ice bits.  Did you know "it melts in our hands".   

What an exciting first morning.  

So much amazing learning this morning.  

So many wonderful conversations between the tamariki.  

It looks like we are going to have an exciting Term 2!
